Francis Chan’s thought on the condition of the church…

The last couple weeks have been a challenge, which I know some of you can relate. Here is a quick overview of the happenings – We had a hot water pipe break in our house (fun stuff). The heater core on our truck began leaking antifreeze on inside the truck (heater core). The AC went out on my car (still no clue what all is wrong). Julie has been having some neck and back pains (which may mean multiple visits to the chiropractor). And the list seems to be growing daily.

While listening to Francis Chan today, he asked several questions that I’ve been wrestling with. I hope you will take some time to wrestle with these questions as well. I also hope that as we share stories, and can come to realize that we aren’t alone on this journey.

The questions are –

If you preach a sermon and all it does is make people feel better about themselves, but there is no life transformation taking place, is it useless?  Is it possible to spend so much time reading the word and hearing the word, that you do not even have time to apply them to you life?  Do you believe spiritual warfare still takes places? How has that helped you grow in your walk with Him? Are there still radicals out there that are doing great things from His sake, even though the cost may be very high?  In the midst of challenges, do you grow and learn from the circumstances?

He closes with this thought…  If there are suffering that must take place for me to grow, help me to grow and learn to trust Him more in the midst of it all.

I know when we face challenges in life its easy to question and wondering how long this will go on.  Jesus never promised that life would always be easy, simply because you’ve chosen to follow Him. There will be challenges, difficulties and hardships from time to time.

In Romans 5 Paul say it this way…
Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

Peter says it like this…
1Pet. 4 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

May you remember that no matter what challenges and frustrations you face, you are not alone. When face trial of any kind, may you still choose to trust Him. May you never stop question and learning from everything that comes your way. And when you find yourself becoming weary and tired, may find rest and comfort knowing that God is in control.
